TRAINING IN AG HEALTH & SAFETY

Building Capacity of Health and Safety Professionals

Project Description

The primary goal of this project is to address the critical shortage of agricultural occupational health and safety researchers and program leaders by educating the next generation of agricultural safety and health (ASH) specialists through our graduate and continuing education program. This project does not include tuition or stipend support for students.

“Building Capacity of Health and Safety Professionals” to deliver clinical and intervention services to agricultural communities has the following specific aims:

  • Develop a model core curriculum and competencies for training agricultural health and safety professionals for a regional and national audience.
  • Expand the established Agricultural Health and Safety Certificate Training (AHS-CT) program to health care and safety professionals in 10 Midwestern states. Strengthen and expand the agricultural health and safety infrastructure, establishing 6 new AgriSafe Network clinics in the region.
  • Introduce health professions students to the field of agricultural safety and health through a series of introductory lectures.
  • Expand and achieve formal recognition of our didactic program of graduate education in Agricultural Safety and Health (ASH).
  • Utilize distance education delivery methods to ensure broad dissemination of all education/translation programs.
