14th Annual Occupational Health Symposium Session III: Safety & Ergonomics

Description: This program will provide current information on selected occupational health topics and provide important resources and networking opportunities necessary for keeping current in occupational medicine and occupational health nursing.

This program is intended for physicians, physicians assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, industrial hygienists, safety professionals, administrators, human resource professionals, and other individuals interested in improving the health and safety of workers.

Continuing Education credit offered: American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) Certification Maintenance (CM) Points, AMA PRA Category 1 credits TM, Nursing CEUs and General CEUs.

Session I: Agricultural Medicine: Occupational and Environmental Health for Rural Health Professionals

NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Training Course

Event Date: 7/19/2012 - 7/20/2012
Location: University of Iowa Institute for Rural and Environmental Health, UI Research Park - Iowa City, IA  

This 2 day workshop covers the most current standards and recent developments in pulmonary function testing. If you are an occupational health nurse, physician, industrial hygienist, technician, medical assistant, or employee health practitioner responsible for performing accurate pulmonary function testing, you will greatly appreciate this course. All participants will have ample opportunity to practice pulmonary function testing utilizing a variety of spirometry equipment with one-on-one instruction from the faculty.

Occupational Hearing Conservationist Course

Event Date: 9/26/2012 - 9/28/2012
Location: The University of Iowa College of Nursing, 50 Newton Rd - Iowa City, IA  

This two-and-a-half-day workshop is designed to familiarize participants with all facets of occupational hearing conservation and certify them as audiometric technicians. Upon completion, a certificate will be awarded which documents evidence of training now required by federal law. Participants will also qualify for certificate by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC).

Occupational Hearing Conservationist Recertification Course

Event Date: 9/27/2012
Location: The University of Iowa College of Nursing, 50 Newton Rd - Iowa City, IA  

This one-day workshop is designed to recertify those who already have CAOHC certification. The update includes review of hearing measurement techniques, employee education strategies, selection and fit of hearing protection, as well as current state and federal regulations relating to noise exposure and hearing conservation.
