March 1, 2005
- We have support from the Local Section to pursue the Student Section of
the year award - Nikki will be getting with some individual student members
to help me put it together. The deadline is April 1st.
We need to put together a memo to address any concerns we may have to the
local section.
- UISG Budget Funding - we can re-submit our application without the career
fair/networking aspect and we stand a very good chance of receiving the funds.
This needs to be submitted next Thursday.
- AIHce Registration - register now - you will be reimbursed later.
- AIHce Lodging - We voted on staying in 4 rooms at the Embassy Suites. One
room will have 4 women and the other 3 will have 3 men in each. We do have
an extra room on Saturday & Thursday for our early arrivals or late departures.
Let Nikki know if you are in earlier than Sunday or staying later than Thursday
as soon as you know, please.
- AIHce Flights - we are still looking to book flights individually - to
be reimbursed later. Flights are beginning to fill up. The best flights are
from Moline into LAX. E-mail nicole-knapp@uiowa.edu
if you want to try to book similar departure & arrival times - Craig Taylor
has volunteered to be our shuttle to & from the airport.
- AIHce Reception - We will have this at the Embassy Suites also. It will
be on Tuesday May 24th starting around 7:45 - after the MSA reception &
with plenty of time for us to head back to our rooms & "freshen up."
- Nikki has contacted AIHA - and (for free) they are listing our event on
their website and in the final program. We have also requested that the information
also be added to the Local Section website.
- Faculty Jeopardy - we are foregoing Faculty Jeopardy this year.
- We need to become a bit more involved in the community as a group. If any
of you can help judge at the Eastern Iowa Science Fair on March 19th - please
sign up on the following website: http://www.eisef.org/volunteers.htm
Currently Nikki & Vijay are signed up to help.
- Tom Peters has e-mailed all of the students about the proposed changes
to the IH curriculum. Please give him your feedback as soon as you can. He
would like current student input before he sends the changes out for Alumni
feedback.
- We will be voting on new officers in Anaheim in May. Those who are not
attending AIHce - please send your votes by proxy ;-)

Present: Students: Vijay Golla, Scott Collingwood, Matt Murphy, Jeff Miller, Angela
Dix, Nicole Knapp
Advisors: Bill Heitbrink, Wayne Sanderson, Tom Peters
Local Section: Pam Kostle, Cindy Baldwin
Next meeting: October 7, 2004, 3:10 PM, 125 IREH
I. Announcements
• New officers need to be elected. Vijay Golla, Matt Murphy, Nicole Knapp
& Angela Dix all expressed interest in the positions. Tom Peters agreed
to send out e-mail ballots and calculate the results.
• Bring $5 to pay I3HSA dues at October meeting.
• Tom Peters expressed interest in starting a journal club. All interested
parties should contact Tom via e-mail at: thomas-m-peters@uiowa.edu
• Local Section members reminded students of the scholarships they sponsor
and handed out applications.
II. Discussion
• Some ideas were discussed about updating the Student Section website
– possibly adding an Alumni section, more linkage with the local section
• Student IH Jeopardy. A time during Seminar should be set up –
shooting for Nov. 16 b/c of the holiday. Angie & Nikki will need to be contestants
– need to find a 3rd IH student.
• How to get more student participation in the local section. Students
need to be more aware of the sponsoring the local section does and try to support
them more by attending meetings. The distance that these meetings are from campus
and the times can sometime interfere with classes.
• What do we need to do to apply for the AIHA student section of the year
award? This is a hot topic and will need to be looked at further at the next
meeting.
