Service Project(s): [Kim]
Food drive (possibly linking up with the Crisis Center)
A week after getting back from Thanksgiving Break – projected start date
Should continue for a couple of weeks
Possibly place boxes in the IREH
Should discuss with the Crisis Center with what they need
Attempts to try and get the entire department involved
Important to have a designated person to actually deliver the canned goods
Boxes & Labels for the boxes are needed
Volunteers are welcome, especially with PR-related matters
Ex. distributing flyers to spread the word that the association is doing this
Turkey donation (possibly around Christmas)
A service project in a similar realm of what the Wesley Center in town does
Various groups alternate serving meals at the church
Questions regarding the service projects
Would this be a one-shot deal or a continuous project?
The association could possibly fill voids when/where the number of volunteers, etc. are the lowest to help out in those regards
Kim will contact the members of I3HSA when she hears back from the respective groups
AIHce Orientation (Denver): [Lorenzo]
Prepare a list of what you would like to know before attending the conference
(like an FAQ or something)
2 representatives should get together and come up with the list
1 who has never been to the conference (Mitch)
1 who has been to the conference before (Donna)
Example questions:
Where do I meet other students?
What is the best way to network?
What are committee meetings?
Deadline: End of fall semester
Shoot videos (short clips) with ideas
The target audience should be: students & early professionals
Examples:
Maybe printing business cards beforehand
Making sure you stand by your poster (and to show up on time!, etc.)
Make sure to have 1 free hand while networking
All members should come up with ideas!
These ideas should be e-mailed to Lorenzo
Deadline: Around February
Need a volunteer to take the lead
YouTube Throwdown: [Lorenzo]
This video should be 2 – 3 minutes in length
Need volunteers willing to act in short video clips with the theme being “This is Industrial Hygiene”
Maybe segment the video with what each person highlights
There is a link posted on Synergist website
The winning video will be shown at the AIHce Conference in Denver
Golden Seed Award Nomination for a Mentor:
This award recognizes a person who has significantly contributed in the Industrial Hygiene field in the areas of student development/being a mentor
The association has decided to nominate Dr. Wayne Sanderson for the award this year
We need a couple of volunteers for writing recommendation letters
Names brought up: Mike Humann, Matt Murphy, Brain Pavilonis, Nicky Knapp, Mark Lebeck, Matt Lozier
(possibly collect half a blurb from everyone listed for the required recommendations necessary for the nomination)
Deadline: April 2009
Student Section of the Year Award:
This is currently not posted/listed on the AIHA website
There is a $1000 award for being named the best student section!
(probably given in AIHA textbooks for the library or the students)
We need volunteers to look into deadlines, requirements, and help prepare the package
Write down things this association has done in the past, what we are currently doing, and future actions
The only things that apparently count are in the year of 2010
Everything else should be listed as a “future activity”
Deadline: April (possibly)
