Rural Roadway Safety
I-CASH is launching a new educational program to educate both farmers and the general public on the safest ways to share rural roads. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, there were 190
crashes involving farm vehicles on public roads in 2005, resulting
in five deaths, 14 major injuries, 45 minor injuries and an
additional 54 possible injuries. Many of these crashes may have
been preventable.
SHARE YOUR STORY: As part of this effort, we will be asking all Iowans to share their experiences on rural roads, particularly those that occurred during high traffic times such as planting or harvest, via the I-CASH website.
What will happen with this information? I-CASH will:
- Create educational materials from these testimonials.
- Travel to outreach events to promote the “It’s Preventable!” message.
- Use these stories to put a personal face on this problem.
- Work with newspapers, TV, and radio across the state to gain media exposure for this key safety issue.
