Purpose
The purpose of the 2008 Midwest Rural Agricultural Safety and Health Forum is to provide updated information on agricultural and rural safety and health, and to strengthen collaborative efforts among researchers, practitioners, agricultural producers and medical professionals.

The conference includes plenary sessions on translating research to practice and connecting researchers with practitioners to form a cooperative network to disseminate knowledge, implement interventions, and create social and behavioral change.

Topics include: farm policy; economics of agriculture; trends in agricultural work force; rural health care reform; injury prevention; translation of agricultural research; rural mental health; pesticide exposure; environmental health; youth safety; rural roadway safety; part-time and alternative farmer safety; personal protective equipment; surveillance; and tractor safety initiatives.

Intended Audience
The forum is designed for the agricultural population in the central United States, health professionals (MD, RN, PA, NP, respiratory therapists and mental professionals), agricultural safety and health professionals, occupational and environmental health professionals, educators, agricultural engineers, commodity group representatives, farmers, employers of migrant farm workers, media, and local, state and national policy makers.

Tour is from 12:30 —3:30 p.m. on Friday 11/21/08. Pre-registration required for the tour. No additional cost if paying full registration fee. Tour includes transportation and afternoon snack.

Registration Process
Pre-registration is requested. Registration deadline is Friday November 7, 2008. Payment methods: check or credit card. Registration fees include all program materials, instruction, continental breakfasts, lunches, and refreshment breaks. All registration fees must be paid in advance of the conference. Cancellation Policy

If registration is cancelled before the November 7 deadline, the registration fee will be refunded, less a $25 administrative fee. After November 7, please transfer your registration to another attendee or call Kelly Flinn at 319-335-4105 to donate registration to a student attendee or non-profit organization.

Nurses
The University of Iowa College of Nursing is Iowa Board of Nursing Approved Provider: Number 1. Full-time attendance at The Midwest Rural Agricultural Safety and Health Forum on November 20 & 21, 2008 awards 12.1 contact hours. Full-time attendance on November 20 only awards 7.9 contact hours. Full-time attendance on November 21 only awards 4.2 contact hours.

Social Work
On October 5, 2005 the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners changed the rules for social work CEUs. The Board no longer approves continuing education sponsors, and now directs its licensees to review the continuing education criteria established in the rules. Social work CEUs will be offered but it is up to the participant to determine if this program is deemed appropriate for your profession. If you have questions, please contact the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners.

General
The University of Iowa awards 1.5 General Education Units (CEU’s) for 15 hours (full-time attendance) at The Midwest Rural Agricultural Safety and Health Forum on November 20 & 21, 2008.
