Photo of farmer holding pigletAgriculture consistently ranks as one of the most hazardous industries in which to work. Within that, the pork industry has its own set of needs and concerns which has been highlighted by the recent attention OSHA has shown the pork industry.

To address these needs and concerns, in 2008 The University of Iowa, with support from the National Pork Board and industry personnel, developed a series of free educational seminars to educate pork industry safety managers and employees about the specific hazards found in their daily work environments.

Using the distance learning software Adobe Connect, well-respected industry and safety persons presented seminars on the most pressing needs of the pork industry as determined by industry representatives. Eleven sessions were delivered to the pork industry.
