The College of Public Health is celebrating its 10th anniversary during the 2009-2010 academic year by hosting local events, reaching out to statewide audiences, and taking part in activities that promote broader awareness of public health. Upcoming Events
- Nov. 9 - CPH Alumni and Friends Reception in Philadelphia. The college is hosting a reception for alumni and friends in the Philadelphia area and for those attending the annual APHA meeting and exposition. The reception will be held Monday, Nov. 9, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., in Room 109B in the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The reception is a nice way to reconnect with fellow alumni and friends, meet and talk with Dean Sue Curry, faculty, students and staff.
- Nov. 12 - CPH Waste Audit. The College of Public Health is holding a Waste Audit on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the IREH south garage on the Oakdale campus. Waste audits analyze an organization's waste stream by sorting a portion of a typical day's trash. The waste audit is a cooperative effort of the college, the ECO Hawk student organization, UI Facilities Management, and external partners such as the City of Iowa City, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and City Carton. Participation from CPH faculty, students, and staff is encouraged. Don't miss this hands-on opportunity to learn about UI conservation strategies and how to enhance our college's commitment to recycling. More details...

- Oct. 24 - Iowa City Gulu Walk. Several students participated in the walk, which brings attention to the plight of the Acholi children of northern Uganda. View photos
- Oct. 10 - CPH Homecoming Tailgate. All faculty, staff, students, and alumni were invited to the College of Public Health’s Homecoming Tailgate on Oct. 10. Hot dogs and soft drinks were served on the patio outside the college’s administrative offices in General Hospital. View photos
- Oct. 9 - CPH Entry in Homecoming Parade, downtown Iowa City. All faculty, staff, and students were invited to partake in college's homecoming parade entry. View photos

- Sept. 1 - UI President Sally Mason Visit the College
One of Sally Mason’s top priorities has been visiting and listening to the University’s many constituencies. The College of Public Health was pleased to welcome President Mason, Mark Braun, her chief of staff, and Jonathan Carlson, her senior associate.
View photos, video - Aug. 27 - "Garbage Dreams" panel discussion at the Landlocked Film Festival, Englert Theatre, Iowa City.
CPH experts led the post-film discussion about "Garbage Dreams," a 2009 documentary about a garbage village near Cairo, Egypt, where occupants survive by recycling 80 percent of the city's garbage. This was the opening film for the Landlocked Film Festival.
