Distance Education

The College of Public Health offers a Public Health Certificate that can be completed entirely online. Two other programs are designed to be completed through a combination of traditional on-campus learning and distance education: the Professional M.P.H. for Practicing Veterinarians and the Emerging Infectious Disease Epidemiology Certificate. Additionally, the college offers a number of individual courses via distance education.

Course and registration information can be accessed from the University of Iowa Distance Education web site.

The College of Public Health employs innovative distance education technologies, such as web courses, Iowa Communications Network (ICN) classrooms, or off-campus extensions. The instruction may be asynchronous (not “real time”) or synchronous (“real time”).

Distance learning requires self-motivation. Learners will have to be resourceful in finding ways to access required reference materials, and they will be required to communicate with the instructor and classmates through the use of technology-based communications. Learners must meet some standard technology requirements before enrollment.
