The graduate college tuition per fall and spring semester (including mandatory fees) for the 2008–2009 school year for residents (in-state) and non-residents (out-of-state) is as follows:

Note: Tuition for workshops and extension courses (section identifiers WK* or EX*) is assessed separately and billed in addition to tuition and fees for on-campus courses.  This year the additional charge for on-line courses is $617 per semester hour for students in the MPH program and $430 per semester hour for other graduate students in the College.   See   http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/ccp/de/derules/tuition.htm for more details.

Financial Aid

Tuition grants, graduate research assistantships, graduate fellowships, and hourly employment are available within the department.   All applicants who want to be considered for merit-based graduate college and departmental awards should submit the application for graduate awards at  http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/applications/grad-general/gradaward07.pdf

Five CBH MPH students were recipients of MPH Opportunity Awards this year.  These awards are made prior to enrollment in the MPH program to attract students who are diverse in background and outstanding in their achievements to date.  The winners are pictured below, from left, Cassie, Esperanza, Michael, Renae, and Saloni.

      

Four CBH MPH students were recipients of tuition surcharge scholarships this past year.  Nominations are submitted by each department and the MPH department, and reflect the goals of the collegiate stategic plan and the MPH strategic plan, including diversity and student excellence.  The winners are pictured below, from left, Anjuli, Christine, Hana, and Karen.

Florin is a CBH PhD student who already has a medical degree andhas completed two internships at the World Health Organization.  Florin was awarded a Seashore Dissertation Year Fellowship for 2008-2009.  The fellowship is intended to help students complete the writing of their dissertations.  The fellowship carries an academic year stipend for up to ten months, plus a summer stipend either before or after the fellowship, for a possible maximum stipend of $22,000.  The award also includes tuition for up to 2 credit hours, plus health and dental insurance allowance.  Read more about Ballard and Seashore Dissertation year fellowships at

Chris is a new CBH MPH student with a focus in Nutrition and Exercise. This upcoming academic year Chris will be the nutrition trainee in Iowa’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities project (ILEND), for which he will receive an academic-year stipend.  ILEND is an interdisciplinary program designed to produce leaders in a variety of health related disciplines.   Read more about ILEND traineeships at http://www.aucd.org/template/page.cfm?id=6

 

The department is pleased that a current CBH PhD student, Mary, was awarded a Presidential Fellowship as of fall 2007.  This award goes to fewer than 200 UI students each year.  The worth of the fellowship is approximately $150,000.  See the description of this award at http://www.grad.uiowa.edu/Students/FinancialSupport

One CBH PhD student, Erin, is the recipient of a NIOSH fellowship to  help meet the need for faculty in occupational injury prevention research.  She receives tuition and a stipend as well as funds to go to relevant national conferences.  Erin has an advisor through CBH as well as a match to an Occupational and Environmental Health Department faculty mentor.   Read more about the NIOSH fellowship at http://www.public-health.uiowa.edu/heartland/
