Human Viral Isolate Reference Sheet

Catalogue Item Name: Ad 7d2-3

Classification: Adenovirus serotype 7        Strain: genotype 7d2

Passage: 3     Culture Host: A549 cells     Time Period Host Cells Infected:  3-5 days

Original Source Information: This isolate was collected in February 2001 from the nasal wash of a 1 year old male seen in an Iowa family practice clinic.

Method of Identification Confirmation: A virology laboratory performed cell culture and monoclonal fluorescent antibody staining confirmation.  The Emerging Pathogens Laboratory repeated cell culturing using A549 cells, and also performed microneutralization serotyping using antisera 1-5, 7 and 21.  The isolates were determined to be serotype 7.  Restriction enzyme analysis, of the purified DNA with BamHi, revealed a pattern consistent with genotype 7d2. (Patterns were compared to five prototype adenovirus serotype 7 of genotypes:  7b, 7d2, 7h, 7p, and 7a, obtained from the CDC)
