Dr. Qijing Zhang is a Distinguished Professor and Dr. Roger and Marilyn Mahr Chair in One Health in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University.
Research:
At ISU he directs an independent research program that focuses on Campylobacter jejuni, a zoonotic pathogen important for food safety and public health. Specifically, his research focuses on transmission, evolution, pathogenesis, and antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter jejuni at the animal-human interface.
Education:
Dr. Zhang received his Bachelors of Veterinary Science from the Shandong Agricultural University, in P.R. China (1979-1983), his Masters of Science in Veterinary Microbiology from the National Institute of Veterinary Biologics, in China (1983-1986), his Ph.D. in Immunobiology at Iowa State University (1990-1994). He did his postdoctoral training in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1994-1997. He has broad training, experience, and expertise in the areas of bacteriology, pathogen-host interaction, and antimicrobial resistance.
Distinctions:
Dr. Zhang has been a panel member for many funding agencies including USDA, NIFA, and NIH. He is currently an editorial board member of mBio and several other journals. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Microbiology, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
