The Iowa CERT is focused on safe and effective use of medications
among older adults. It also aims to educate providers, patients, and
policy makers about therapeutic decision-making within the older
adult population. An important aim of the center is to expand existing
collaborations to new partnerships with both private and public
entities. The Center is directed by Elizabeth Chrischilles, a
Professor of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health and
Gary Rosenthal, a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Carver
College of Medicine.
The Iowa CERT is a multidisciplinary Center comprised of researchers within the University of Iowa Colleges of Public Health, Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing, and the Veteran's Administration Medical Center.
The Iowa CERT is housed in the Healthcare Effectiveness Research Center (http://cph.uiowa.edu/herce/). This Center is comprised of epidemiologists, economists, geographers, biostatisticians, clinicians, database specialists, and graduate students from the colleges of Public Health, Pharmacy, Medicine, and Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as their collaborators from other organizations. Center space in the Westlawn building on the medical campus includes over 1800 square feet with staff offices, meeting areas, and resources for primary data collection and analysis. The laboratory space in the Center includes desk space and workstations for affiliated graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting researchers.
