Graduate Certificate in Public Health – FAQ

Who is the Graduate Certificate designed for?
Public health professionals who desire to strengthen their knowledge and skills in basic public health competencies; students who want to compliment their Graduate or Professional degree with knowledge and skills in basic public health competencies; individuals considering an MPH degree program.
Is the Graduate Certificate in Public Health a distance-education program?
Yes. All classes may be completed online.
Are the classes available to be taken in-person?
Yes. Classes may be taken in-person.
How long does it take to complete the Graduate Certificate?
It takes a minimum of 2 semesters to complete the Graduate Certificate. Students may take up to five years.
Can the coursework transfer to the MPH Program?
Yes. All 18 semester hours will count toward an MPH if a student chooses to pursue an MPH, with a minimum grade of B- needed for each class.
Can I take courses not required for the Graduate Certificate in Public Health?
If your only program at the University of Iowa is the Graduate Certificate in Public Health, you may only take courses required to earn the Certificate.
Is financial aid or scholarship money available?
No.
What is the tuition?
2023-24 tuition for a 3 semester-hour graduate course is approximately $2,300.00 for a distance education course and $2,432.00 for a face-to-face course.
