Borbala Daroczi, MD
Borbála is from Debrecen , Hungary. She has a medical degree
from the University of Debrecen, and is currently in a residency program
in the School of Public Health in Debrecen, specializing in public health
and preventive medicine. She has been researching the topic of regional
differences in mortality of the population of North-Eastern Hungary,
with a special emphasis on settlements with gypsy colonies. She is also
finishing up a degree in law and is therefore very interested in the
legal and social aspects of health care for specific populations. Her
mentor is Dr. Marcia Ward from the Department of Health Management and
Policy.
Alexandru Coman, MD
Alex is from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He earned his medical degree in
2001 and is currently in a resident program in epidemiology at The Infectious
Disease Hospital in Cluj. His interests are mathematics, computer technology
and infectious disease epidemiology. He plans to use his time here to
expand his knowledge of research methods, biostatistics and environmental
health. Alex's mentor is Dr. Greg Gray
Joanna Jurewicz, MS
Joanna is from Lódz, Poland. She has a master's degree in public
health. She is currently working in the Department of Environmental
Epidemiology in the Environmental Reproductive Hazards Unit. She is
co-author on several papers having to do with reproductive issues and
exposure to pesticides, and plans to continue this area of study for
her doctorate degree. Joanna is working with Dr. Wayne Sanderson.
Marek Majdan, MS
Marek is from Trnava , Slovakia . He has a master's degree in public
health from Trnava University . His master's thesis concerned the impact
of waste sites on the health of populations, with particular attention
to women's reproductive health and the health of newborns living near
a landfill-site in the town of Pezinok . He is currently working on
his PhD thesis, which continues this line of study, using the tool of
geographic information systems. Marek ise working with Dr. Bill Field
