Iowa Fogarty Pilot Projects

Deadline for spring 2005 is March 1.

The Iowa Fogarty Pilot Program seeks collaborative environmental health-related research proposals from former Fogarty Fellows. Collaboration is encouraged with Iowa faculty mentors or with the Iowa Fogarty collaborating institutions. Topics must involve a broadly-defined environmental health. The purpose of pilot project funding is to enable young researchers with less experience to begin a research program, and to allow more advanced researchers to take up new areas of interest.

Funding Support

Funds up to a maximum of $12,000 will be awarded directly to the investigator(s), and transferred to the Fogarty fellow(s) institute(s).
There will be two cycles per year with March 1 and September 1 deadlines.
Foreign travel expenses (up to $1,500) can be used for foreign collaborators to travel to or from the study site.
The project should be planned (if possible) to be conducted within a one-year time period.
Project proposals will be reviewed by a panel of experts.
Three-to-four projects will be funded each year.

Program Requirements:

No UI faculty salary or professional meeting travel is supported.
Pilot grant recipients are required to submit reprints of manuscripts that arise from pilot grants and to report on graduate theses, grants and contracts that emanate from work supported through the Pilot Grant Program.
Publications that arise from the Pilot Grant Program, in whole or in part, must recognize support of the Fogarty International Center, grant # 5 D43 TW000621-09.
