Genetic Epidemiologist
The Department of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at The University of Iowa seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor for an academic position in genetic epidemiology. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to participate actively in an ambitious new multidisciplinary initiative in genetics. New faculty members with expertise in genetics are being hired to complement the University’s considerable existing expertise in these areas to form the core of this innovative multidisciplinary initiative. Participation in the Genetics Cluster will be an important component in performance evaluations.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, medicine or a related field with at least two years of postdoctoral training or relevant experience. Teaching experience is desirable. A strong background in quantitative sciences is essential; specific expertise spanning genetic epidemiologic, bioinformatic/comparative genomic, or statistical approaches is desired. Research experience in molecular/genetic epidemiology and a relevant publication record in peer-reviewed journals are required. We particularly welcome applicants with interests in the molecular/genetic aspects of cancer, perinatal epidemiology or chronic disease, and the evaluation of gene-environment interaction effects.
Research Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program relevant to molecular/genetic epidemiology that provides at least partial salary support via grants/contracts. Collaboration and consultation with clinicians, epidemiologists, and other public health science investigators in genetics-related studies will be expected.
Teaching Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach a course on statistical methods in genetic epidemiology; provide lectures in courses as requested by course directors, and present seminars in areas of the candidate’s interest and expertise. The Department of Epidemiology offers MPH, MS and PhD degrees and the successful candidate will also be expected to mentor graduate students.
Service Responsibilities: The successful candidate will participate in departmental and collegiate meetings, on departmental and collegiate committees as assigned, conduct scholarly journal reviews, and participate in other activities, when requested, at the university, state, and national levels.

Infectious Disease Epidemiologist
The Department of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa is seeking candidates with specific training and expertise in infectious disease epidemiology for a tenure-track faculty position.
Duties of the faculty member will include directing the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, conducting federally funded research, teaching of graduate students and health professionals, advising students, mentoring faculty and students along with academic and public health service.
Candidates should have a MD, DrPH, DVM or PhD with appropriate epidemiologic and infectious disease training and experience.
We are seeking an outstanding investigator with an innovative record of research and experience in population-based infectious disease epidemiology, emerging infections, or pathogen transmission research to join a dynamic and collaborative research environment within the university. The successful candidate will have evidence of excellence in teaching, independent grant funding, and a publication track record consistent with that of an associate or full professor in a college of public health. Such candidate will also have research interests in infectious disease surveillance, molecular epidemiology, zoonotic diseases, risk factor investigation, epidemic modeling or vaccine research. The faculty member may be at the rank of associate professor to full professor, depending upon experience.
