Gary L. Heil , Ph.D.

Gary L. Heil received a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts in Microbiology from Southern Illinois and University at Carbondale before receiving a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Iowa under George Stauffer PhD.  This led to a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Iowa under the mentorship of Andrew D. Robertson to study protein chemistry and biophysics.  Before joining the laboratory team at the University of Iowa Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, Gary worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Chicago as part of a highly collaborative team under the leadership of Shohei Koide of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Marsha Rosner of the Ben May Institute for Cancer Research.
