Dr. Kohatsu received his A.B. in Human Biology from Stanford University; his M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh; and M.P.H. (Environmental Health with a concentration in Epidemiology) from the University of Minnesota. He completed his preventive medicine residency at the University of Arizona, Department of Family and Community Medicine. Following residency, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular disease prevention and epidemiology within the Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention. After training, he directed programs in chronic disease prevention and control in the California Department of Health Services for over 10 years. He also served as Medical Director of the Medical Board of California and most recently was on the UI faculty in the Department of Epidemiology. Dr. Kohatsu is board certified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He is President of the American College of Preventive Medicine through February 2007. Dr. Kohatsu is currently Chief, Cancer Control Branch, in the California Department of Health Services. In this capacity, he oversees programs in tobacco control, cancer clinical preventive services, surveillance and applied research, nutrition, and physical activity. |
