Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements for MS Degree Program

  • A baccalaureate degree is required. The minimum grade-point-average requirement for admission is 3.0.
  • A background of science, mathematics, or health sciences is recommended, though our students come from a variety of undergraduate majors.
  • Undergraduate preparation must have included two semesters of biological sciences and mathematics through algebra. A computer-programming course is desirable.
  • The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test is required. The recommended minimum score on the combined verbal and quantitative portions is 1050.
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for most international students. On the TOEFL, a minimum score of 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based or 100 internet-based is considered acceptable for most students. On the IELTS, a minimum score of 7.0 with no subscore lower than 6.0 is considered acceptable for most students.

 

Admission Requirements for PhD Degree Program

  • A baccalaureate degree is required, and an MS or MPH degree in an area closely related to epidemiology is generally required.. The minimum grade-point-average requirement for admission is 3.0.
  • Courses in the biological, physical and mathematical sciences provide important background coursework and are highly recommended. This includes one semester of calculus and two semesters of biological sciences. Computing skills are desirable.
  • The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test is required. The recommended minimum score on the combined verbal and quantitative portions is 1050.
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for most international students.
