How to Apply to Epidemiology MS and PhD Programs at The University
of Iowa
Deadlines for the Department of Epidemiology
- MS Fall Admission: July 1 (April 15 for International students)
- MS Spring Admission: no spring admission
- MS Summer Admission: April 15 (March 1 for International students)
- PhD Fall or Summer Admission: April 1
- PhD Spring Admission (not encouraged): October 1
These deadlines are designed to give faculty time to review your
application for the desired semester. If all required application
materials have not been received by the deadline, there may not
be enough time to review your application for that semester.
The Following Materials Should be Sent to the Admissions Office:
- Application for Graduate Admission (submit on-line at the Univeristy
of Iowa Admissions website). The program code for Epidemiology
is 173.
- Application Fee (pay with credit card when submitting application)
- Official Score Reports from the GRE
- Official TOEFL or IELTS score reports, if required. If you are
an international student, you may contact the Office of International
Admissions at (319) 335-1534 (115 Calvin Hall) to determine whether
you are required to take the TOEFL.
- Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

- Three letters of reference (no special form is required)
- Statement of Purpose (a page or two describing your career goals
and your interest in the program)
- Résumé describing educational and employment history
- Epidemiology Checklist Form
Please Note:
All GRE & TOEFL scores must be submitted to the Office of Admissions
by Educational Testing Service (ETS). The University of Iowa's reporting
code is 6681. The departmental codes for Epidemiology are 0606 for
GRE; 50 for TOEFL. We will not accept photocopies of score reports
sent in by the student as a substitute for the official scores.
The College of Public Health requires the GRE general test. GMAT,
MCAT, and LSAT scores cannot be used instead of the GRE.
You will need to submit two official transcripts, one to the Office
of Admissions and one to the Department of Epidemiology.
