Influenza A is an emerging disease problem that impacts humans and numerous species of animals.

Diseases that result from pathogens that jump species barriers are called zoonoses. Sometimes when unusual animal influenza viruses infect man this can lead to very large human epidemics that may spread worldwide.

This research study seeks to understand why some people experience animal-to-human transmission of influenza virus. Identifying people at the greatest risk of zoonotic infection is a first step in providing them with special vaccines to prevent such infections and epidemics.
