Placement: Iowa Methodist Occupational Medicine
After completing my residency training in Occupational Medicine through the Heartland Center in August of 2005, I accepted a position as Staff Physician at Iowa Methodist Occupational Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. The variety of responsibilities is the most enjoyable part of my job. Aside from clinical practice in caring for injured workers and practicing Preventive Medicine, I am also the Medical Review Officer overseeing the workplace drug testing for our client companies.
The training I received at the Heartland Center not only gave me a broad base of experiences that I can apply on a daily basis to my work, it also provided contacts within the WORKSAFE Clinics of Iowa through which I found this position.
For anyone considering working in the field of Occupational and Environmental Health in any capacity, I would highly recommend the Heartland Center at the University of Iowa. In addition to outstanding faculty, the opportunity for multidisciplinary interaction within the Center is unsurpassed.
