Beryllium Sensitivity Screening

One aim of the IAAAP Munitions Workers Study is to measure the rate of beryllium sensitivity among conventional weapons workers at IAAAP, and to offer follow up with medical evaluations for those workers who screen positive for beryllium sensitization. Information from this study may help to determine if there is an industry-wide health concern related to beryllium and, if indicated, to improve screening and hygiene programs for workers in other facilities who may be at risk.

Current and former IAAAP workers employed by the Department of Defense, or its subcontractors, are being offered the Beryllium Lymphocyte Proliferation Test
(Be-LPT). The purpose of this screening is to determine the rates of beryllium sensitivity among workers in various job categories. Persons with little or no exposure to beryllium are encouraged to participate.

Participants will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire and provide a blood sample to be submitted to two laboratories for determination of sensitization to beryllium. Participants will be compensated $25 for their time.
