About I-CASH
The following focus areas have been designated for I-CASH effort and activities:
1. Provision of occupational health and safety services to the farm community (i.e. The Iowa AgriSafe Network and the Certified Safe Farm program)
2. Health and safety hazards related to livestock and poultry production
3. Machinery-related injuries (Tractor and other)
4. Injuries and illnesses among farm youth
5. Surveillance of agricultural injuries and illnesses
6. Human and environmental effects of agricultural chemicals
7. Farm related stress
8. Explore needs of special populations (elderly, migrant/immigrant workers, youth, women, niche farmers)
Long range outcomes (using 1997 as a baseline)
1. Reduce the overall farm death, injury, and illness rates by 25% by the year 2010.
2. Reduce the overall injury and death rates in farm youth by 25% by the year 2010.
3. Reduce the agricultural occupational related youth (19 and under) death rate by 50% by the year 2010.
4. Generally reduce the hazardous exposures on farms by certifying 1% of Iowa Farms in the Certified Safe Farm program by the year 2010.
Goals
1. Coordinate efforts of agricultural safety and health partners and serve as a catalyst for initiation of agricultural safety and health organizations and activities.
2. Support agricultural safety and health education.
3. Promote communication and collaboration among partners to enhance effectiveness and prevent duplication.
4. Provide agricultural safety and health information to the general public.
5. Achieve sustainability for agricultural safety and health initiative.
