Safety & Health Research Programs

Australian Rural Health Research Collaboration

The Australian Rural Health Research Collaboration is a collaboration of three research centres, established to address important inequalities in health between rural and urban communities, with many rural communities being disadvantaged with respect to their state of health and wellbeing, mortality rates and access to services.

Canadian Centre for Health and Safety in Agriculture (CCHSA)

Building on 20 years of leadership in agricultural safety and rural health issues, we have evolved into a new national centre of excellence which has an expanded mandate in the field of agricultural safety, rural health, delivery of training programs and knowledge translation. The Canadian Centre will continue to focus its resources on addressing public health issues related to the agricultural rural ecosystem and bridge gaps that occur between the spectra of basic research, applied research, the community and policy.

Center for Food Security and Public Health

The CFSPH is a CDC Center for Public Health Preparedness and is the only Center to focus on veterinary medicine and zoonotic diseases. Located at Iowa State University, the CFSPH has worked to increase awareness of bioterrorism, agroterrorism and foreign animal diseases among veterinarians, farmers, medical personnel and the general public.

Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination (CHEEC)

Supports and conducts research to identify, measure and prevent adverse health outcomes related to exposure to environmental toxins. CHEEC organizes and participates in educational and outreach programs, provides environmental health expertise to local, state and federal entities, and serves as a resource to Iowans in the field of environmental health.

Certified Safe Farm Program (Iowa)

The CSF program is a multi-faceted agricultural intervention research program designed to reduce the rate of injuries and illnesses in the agricultural population. The program consists of four main components that work together to offer the best opportunity of changing attitudes and behaviors of participating farmers.

Environmental Health Sciences Research Center (EHSRC)

Conducts research and outreach on the adverse health effects of environmental contaminants among rural and agricultural populations.

Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health

Serves NIOSH Region IV ( Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska), and dedicated to finding ways to protect and promote the health and safety of farmers, farm workers, their families, and their neighbors. The Center conducts multidisciplinary research, develops and evaluates novel disease and injury prevention models, trains health professionals, provides technical assistance and maintains linkages with agricultural health and safety professionals in the region.

Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety

This Center rovides graduate training, continuing education and outreach in the area of occupational health and safety. Located in the University of Iowa’s College of Public Health, it is a NIOSH-funded Education and Research Center serving Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC)

Aims to prevent and control injuries in high risk rural populations by supporting research and training and by disseminating research results to policy makers.

Missouri Arthritis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (MARRTC)

Farming with Arthritis Information
MARRTC and the Missouri AgrAbility Project offer simple solutions to help farmers, ranchers and farmworkers prevent and better cope with arthritis.

North American Agromedicine Consortium

An affiliation of faculty representing schools of Agriculture, forestry and natural resources, life sciences, family and consumer sciences, medicine, nursing, allied health, public health, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and representatives of related government, agribusiness, and voluntary agencies. The objective of the consortium is to share through a multi-disciplinary approach, their expertise and resources in public service, education and research of the enhancement of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries safety and health within their state, province, country, and the North American region. The consortium is affiliated with the International Association of Agricultural Medicine and Rural Health.
