Since 2005, the Iowa Coalition on Mental Health and Aging has grown to more than 250 active members from across the state of Iowa. These individuals represent program administrators, service providers, consumers, caregivers, and many other organizations concerned with improving the lives of older Iowans with mental illnesses.
The ICMHA has hosted 5 continuing education events that have been attended by more than 400 people.
The coalition has developed and collected a variety of public education materials that provide current information about older Iowans with mental illnesses.
The coalition has provided feature stories to local radio and television stations and newspapers.
The ICMHA has supported public policy initiatives at both the federal and state level that address the needs of older Iowans with mental illnesses.
The ICMHA has supported the implementation of an evidence-based collaborative model of mental health care in which health providers and members of the aging network coordinate care with specialty mental health service providers.
