| Injury is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of premature death measured in years of productive life lost. |
|
The University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC) addresses this important public health problem. Founded in 1990, the IPRC is one of 11 injury "Centers of Excellence" funded by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The theme of the Iowa Center is prevention and control of rural injuries. Based on epidemiologic data, rural populations at high risk of injury include children, the elderly, farmers and farm families. The IPRC aims to prevent and control injuries in these high risk rural populations by supporting research and training and by disseminating research results to policy makers. |
