Research Support
As a CDC-recognized “Center of Excellence” in injury control research, the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center continually strives to enhance the quantity and quality of the injury research field. Accordingly the IPRC recognizes the need for researchers and students to have access to timely, high-quality data and to the technical support needed to analyze and appropriately interpret and disseminate the data. Researchers also need access to individuals with expertise in study design, database design and management, and analytic approaches.
The availability of accurate, complete, and accessible surveillance data is fundamental to a public health approach to injury control. Recognizing this fact, the IPRC has devoted considerable effort to obtaining access to and developing expertise in a wide variety of local and national databases.
The UI IPRC also provides consultation and technical assistance, both within the Center and for our external partners, to encourage the development of scientifically sound injury control research. Through the Center’s Research Support Core, assistance is available to investigators on research methods issues such as study design, sample size and power calculations, the design and administration of questionnaires, data collection, and data management. Assistance is also offered in the analysis and interpretation of results, writing up results, and responding to reviewers’ methodological concerns.
