Academic Training Program

Growth and progress in the field of injury control depends on the availability of well-trained injury professionals.

Because the field of injury control is a broad and interdisciplinary enterprise, training efforts need to encompass a variety of disciplines. The Training Program at the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC) facilitates multidisciplinary academic instruction along with continuing education for practitioners. Our Training Program raises awareness of the importance of injury prevention and control and increases the understanding of injury control theory, research design and analysis methods; program design and implementation; and program evaluation.

Our training efforts are guided by the following specific aims.

Specific Aim 1:
Promote multi-departmental education and training in injury prevention and control throughout the University of Iowa and by utilizing distance-based technology

Specific Aim 2:
Involve students in injury prevention research and practice through injury-related MPH practicum placements and opportunities for students to participate in scholarly activities such as manuscript preparation and presentations, and be nominated for awards.

Specific Aim 3:
Promote injury control training for professional practitioners, members of community-based organizations, and government and business leaders by conducting professional seminars and other continuing education activities, sponsoring symposiums, and participating in regional and national injury training efforts.
