Officials Call for Improved Geriatric Care
(The Daily Iowan, 10/31/2009)
Aside from budget issues, officials also addressed public health
matters at the state Board of Regents’ meeting last week. Citing the
aging of the baby boomers, officials called for improvements in
geriatric care. SUE CURRY, dean of the College of Public
Health, said failure to improve care now could lead to greater
problems in the future. “I think with this dramatic growth and without
accelerated prevention and wellness, we can anticipate an increase in
age-related diseases, illness, and disabilities,” she said.

Bracing for Old Age
(The Daily Iowan, 11/6/2009)
With the baby boom generation growing older, some UI officials say
people need to be prepared to care for them. “Iowa is an aging state;
we need to develop responses now,” said BRIAN KASKIE, UI associate
professor of health management and policy. “Doing nothing will not
