Registration underway for midlife planning conference Nov. 5
A midlife planning conference "Creating the Second Half of Your Life" will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education, 7725 Kirkwood Blvd. SW in Cedar Rapids. The "Intelligent Planning for Midlife Change" program is a joint project of Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Alan Bernstein and John Trauth, nationally recognized authors, speakers and authorities on creative planning and solutions for midlife change, will present. Participants will receive personal plans for their next 20 years at the end of the conference.
Topics will include: five major "myths" that distort realistic perceptions about later life; psychological preparations for change; understanding your personality to determine what lifestyle will allow satisfaction and fulfillment; and creating a "NewLife Vision" based on personal lifestyle and developing the initial personal strategy to turn that vision into reality.
Group "memory exercises," breakout sessions on healthy eating, and preparing for expected and unexpected changes in mature life stages will also be offered.
Registration for the conference is $95, including a catered lunch. Osher Institute members may register for $80. Register at 319-398-1022 or toll-free at 800-332-8833. For more information, see http://www.kirkwood.edu/pdf/uploaded/231/second_half_conference_09_brochure.pdf.
