MPH General Degree Requirements

Objective
This is a degree for those students who desire to learn the fundamental
concepts and methods the practice of public health. The degree
provides the methodologic skills and knowledge and the public health
setting. The focus of the degree is flexible to allow selected
students the opportunity to craft a degree program to suit public
health career needs. The student should be capable of performance
in public health departments and healthcare settings.
Focus areas represent pre-approved general track degree programs where there is an interdisciplinary or combined degree program emphasis that does not exactly fit into any of the five College of Public Health departments. The general track MPH is a minimum 42 semester hour degree. It is used to set up a focus area or used in combination with other degrees for combined degrees with the MPH such as the DVM/MPH, MD/MPH and MSN/MPH.
Prerequisites
An undergraduate degree is required. The cumulative grade point
average should e a minimum of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Although no
specific major is required, prerequisite coursework includes one
semester of each of college algebra and biology.
MPH Core Courses (18 s.h.)
The following course work is required for all MPH students. Students must earn ≥ B- (2.67) on each core course and must earn a ≥ B (3.0) cumulative grade point average on all core courses. When necessary, a student may repeat courses to achieve this standard.

The experience from this course, including a final written report and an oral presentation, constitutes the final examination for the MPH.
Elective Courses (21 s.h.)
Students are
required to take 21 hours from courses required in one of the subtracks
or focus areas; the student and advisor determine what those
classes will be.
