Practicum Presentation Options
Oral Presentation Option
Each
student must demonstrate the ability to make a professional presentation
to an informed
audience in a competent manner. The oral presentation is one of
two options for completing this requirement.
The
student chooses the
members of the Faculty Presentation Committee and selects a date,
time and location for the presentation. The Faculty Presentation
Committee consists of at least three members of the College faculty.
Suggested committee members include:
- Faculty member from Practicum Course (170:299) (required)
- Faculty member from the student’s discipline or focus
area
- Faculty member of student’s choice
The
student's preceptor is encouraged, but not required, to attend the
oral presentation. The presentation
is also open to other faculty, students and staff with an interest
in the topic.
Students
should use contemporary presentation tools, e.g. PowerPoint, to
facilitate their presentations. The presentation should be planned
for 90 minutes total, including time for questions and discussion.
Assistance
with scheduling a conference room for the presentation is available
at mph-practicum@uiowa.edu.
Students
who choose the oral presentation should distribute the written report
to the members of the Faculty Presentation Committee and to the
Practicum Office (email to mph-practicum@uiowa.edu)
at least one week prior to the presentation date. Distribution
is preferred through electronic means.
