Cost and Financial
Aid
Cost of Study
The amount of tuition paid by a student is affected by a number of factors:
- Course delivery mode. Off-campus course tuition is assessed in addition to tuition for courses taken on campus. The current tuition for MPH students enrolled in distance education classes is available on the web at http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/ccp/studservs.htm. Select the link entitled "Rules and Regulations”, then choose the “Tuition, Billing, and Payment” link. Look for information on MPH tuition. Students with a mixed load of on- and off-campus courses will be assessed distance education rates for off-campus courses and on-campus tuition will be assessed for on-campus courses. Total tuition cost for a semester is calculated by adding both figures together.
- Combined degree status. Students enrolled in an official combined degree program may pay different tuition rates. Generally, these students pay for two full-time semesters of MPH tuition, and the remainder of tuition is billed at the alternate program rate.
- The number of credit hours of enrollment taken each semester. Tuition and fees are based on a sliding scale dictated by the number of credit hours of enrollment. MPH tuition per semester (including mandatory fees) for the 2008-2009 academic year for on-campus courses is as follows:

+ Students who enroll in more than 9 s.h. of on-campus classes do not pay for additional hours of on-campus enrollment. However, students who have a mixed load of on- and off-campus classes will not see a savings unless their on-campus hours total more than 9. Distance education classes are billed separately and do not count toward the 9 hours for tuition savings.
Estimated tuition, fees, and living expenses for MPH students may be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/graduate/costs/mph.htm.
Financial Support
MPH students must expect to pay for their own tuition, fees, and
living expenses from their own resources. The College of Public
Health does not offer MPH students research or teaching assistant
positions because they are reserved for MS & PhD students who
are preparing for careers in research and teaching.
A few modest tuition awards are offered each semester, however, individuals must be nominated by their department or the MPH program to apply. Selection will be based on multiple factors including financial need, academic achievement, and student characteristics that will enhance diversity to our program. Nominations are solicited annually after the start of the fall semester.
