The Practicum Experience
Presentation Options
Each student must demonstrate the ability to make a professional presentation of her/his practicum experience to an informed audience in a competent manner. Campus-based students participate in a poster presentation to meet this requirement. Distance-based students may do an oral presentation using web-conferencing to meet the requirement.
Poster Presentation
Scheduled during the week prior to final exams, the poster session allows students to demonstrate their ability to synthesize their practicum activities and share them with an audience of other students, faculty and staff, and others.
A poster review committee evaluates the posters during the presentation. Students are required to attend their posters during the entire evaluation session to answer questions from the members of the poster review committee and other audience members. The student's practicum preceptor is also invited to attend the poster presentation.
A copy of the written report should be submitted to the MPH Practicum Experience ICON Dropbox ten days prior to the poster presentation.
Students doing the poster presentation should follow the poster presentation guidelines.
Oral Presentation
Students will be contacted by the practicum administrative coordinator to schedule oral presentations.
The student's preceptor is invited to attend the oral presentation. The presentation is also open to other faculty, students and staff.
Students should use contemporary presentation tools, e.g. PowerPoint, to facilitate the presentations. The presentation should be planned for a total of 60 minutes (40-45 minutes of presentation time with the remainder allowed for discussion and questions). Web conferencing tools will be used.
The written report should be submitted to the MPH Practicum Experience ICON Dropbox ten days prior to the presentation date.
