Newswise — ALEXANDRIA, VA-The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) announced the addition of four new members to its Board of Directors, beginning their tenure in January 2015. Joining the AMGA Board are the following:
Sharon R. Gabrielson, MHA, Administrator, Enterprise Office of Population Health and Vice Chair, Mayo Clinic Health System, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MNMs. Gabrielson is a healthcare executive with over 20 years of broad-based leadership experience in strategic and operational planning, practice, quality improvement, outcomes, safety and service. These experiences have included executive level leadership of both small and large healthcare systems, management of integrated healthcare organizations, and integration of clinical practices, multidisciplinary organizations, and stakeholders.
Ms. Gabrielson has held many positions within Mayo, her most recent being the administrator of the Enterprise Office of Population Health, where she is accountable for the development of Mayo Model of Community Care and ensures the resource allocations to support the transformation of care delivery models, and vice chair, Mayo Clinic Health System, where she is accountable for the operational oversight of 18 hospitals and 72 clinics across a three state area. She has also held positions with Olmsted Medical Center and LifeSource Upper Midwest Organ Procurement Organization.
Ms. Gabrielson is a member of many local and national committees for various organizations, is a published author, has made many presentations before various groups and is a member of the AMGA CAO Leadership Council. Ms. Gabrielson received her Master of Arts in health administration and in management from St. Mary’s University; her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Winona State University; and her Associate of Arts in nursing from the St. Mary’s Junior College.
Matthew D. Gibb, MD, FACC, FACP, FSCAI, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Senior Vice President, Carle Physician Group, Urbana, ILDr. Gibb is executive senior vice president and system chief medical officer for Carle Foundation Hospital, Carle Physician Group, and Health Alliance Medical Plans. Based in Urbana, Illinois, The Carle Foundation is the not-for-profit parent company of an integrated network of healthcare services. At its core are Carle Foundation Hospital, Carle Physician Group and Health Alliance Medical Plans. His role also includes serving as institutional official for research, where Dr. Gibb is responsible for ensuring Carle Research meets federal regulations. The 393-bed Carle Foundation Hospital has achieved Magnet® designation, the nation’s highest honor for nursing care. Other recognitions for Carle Foundation Hospital in 2014 include Healthgrades Americas 100 Best Hospitals award, 100 Great Hospitals of 2014 by Becker’s Hospital Review, a Best Hospital by US News and World Report, and a “Most Wired” health system by Hospitals and Health Networks. Carle Physician Group, the outpatient practice serving nearly 225,000 unique patients annually, is comprised of more than 400 physicians and 200 Advanced Practice Providers dedicated to providing the highest quality care in 50 specialties located in 14 communities across central Illinois. Dr. Gibb was previously medical director of Carle Heart and Vascular Institute and he has served in a variety of medical and administrative leadership positions at Carle, including Chair of the Cardiology Division, Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, Director of Invasive and Interventional Cardiology, and Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Gibb served in the United States Navy Medical Corps from 1983 to 1994, as a senior flight surgeon and cardiologist. Upon departing from the Navy, he joined Carle in 1994 as a cardiologist and served in many leadership positions, including six years as Chair of the Carle Clinic Association Board of Governors, where he helped guide the integration of Carle Clinic Association and the Carle Foundation in 2010. Dr. Gibb is a member of many local and national committees for various organizations, is a published author, and is a current member of the AMGA CMO Leadership Council.
Dr. Gibb received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and mathematics from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Saint Louis University.
Aric Sharp, MHHA, CMPE, FACHE , Vice President of Accountable Care, UnityPoint Health, West Des Moines, IAMr. Sharp is Vice President of Accountable Care for UnityPoint Health. He is responsible for leading UnityPoint Health Partners, an ACO network of more than 2,500 physicians and providers across Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. He also leads the population heath initiatives across the UnityPoint Health system.
Through the end of 2014, Mr. Sharp served as the chief executive officer of Quincy Medical Group, a 140-physician/provider multispecialty group comprised of 33 specialties in Quincy, Illinois. Quincy Medical Group was recognized by AMGA in 2014 as a top performer in both physician and employee satisfaction.
Prior to his work at Quincy Medical Group, he held various prior positions with The Iowa Clinic, P.C. over an 11-year period, including Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Sharp has received many honors throughout his career and recently was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of 12 Up & Comers under 40 years old from across the United States. He is a guest lecturer at the University of Iowa MHA Program, and his work has been cited in various trade journals including Inside Health Policy, Modern Healthcare, HealthLeaders, Hospital & Health Networks, Group Practice Journal, and Becker’s Hospital Review.
Mr. Sharp currently serves as the Chair of the American Medical Group Association Public Policy Committee. He is also a Board Member of the AMGA Political Action Committee. He has also served locally in various capacities including the Great River Economic Development Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, School Board member, and various fundraising initiatives.
Mr. Sharp is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Certified Medical Practice Executive. He holds a Master’s degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of business administration in finance from Iowa State University.
C. Todd Staub, MD, FACP, Chairman, ProHealth Physicians, Farmington, CTDr. Staub, a general internist, is the Chairman of ProHealth Physicians. He serves as the Vice Chair of the Connecticut Center for Primary Care, a nonprofit research and educational organization focused on issues relevant to primary care delivery. He helped to create the Primary Care Coalition of Connecticut, which brings together the broad primary care community from diverse professional, practice, and academic settings across the state. He is the current Chair of the Coalition.
ProHealth Physicians is a physician-owned, primary care group practice with over 90 sites throughout Connecticut with 340 providers, serving a population approaching 400,000. ProHealth has 76 NCQA level 3 medical homes and is developing population health programs under ACO arrangements with Medicare and commercial insurers.
Dr. Staub served in the National Health Service Corps for two years after residency in a neighborhood health clinic in Boston. He then entered private practice in Connecticut, first as solo and then in small group practice, until the founding of ProHealth Physicians in 1997.
He has been active on state legislative committees for health policy over the last several years, and he is the past Chair of the AMGA CEO/Chair Leadership Council.
Dr. Staub completed his medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1981 and his medical internship and residency at Cornell-New York Hospital in 1984. He continues his primary care practice in the town of Litchfield as part of ProHealth Physicians, admitting to the local hospital and serving as nursing home director and school physician.
