Central Plains Federal Statistical Research Data Center topic of colloquium

Published on April 23, 2015

The Social Sciences Interdisciplinary Group will host a colloquium to discuss the Central Plains Federal Statistical Research Data Center on Wednesday, April 29, from noon to 1 p.m. in 302 Schaeffer Hall.

The presenters are Zhengyuan Zhu and Lily Wang from the Department of Statistics at Iowa State University.

The Federal Statistical Research Data Center (RDC) is a special research facility established with the help of the U.S. Census Bureau to provide researchers access to a wealth of non-public data maintained by the Census Bureau and other agencies in the federal statistical system. The main node of the Central Plains Federal Statistical Research Data Center is expected to open at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall, and a branch will be built in the ISU campus in the near future. Access to the RDC for UI researchers will be supported by the Iowa Science Social Research Center.

In this talk, we will provide more details about the RDC and the exciting opportunities that it can bring to UI faculty, research staff, and graduate students. We will also solicit input from interested faculty to identify potential projects that could use the center’s data.
