Jason Daniel-Ulloa, assistant research scientist in the Department of  Community and Behavioral Health, was honored April 28 with a 2016 Diversity Catalyst Award.

Sponsored by the Chief Diversity Office and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, the Diversity Catalyst Awards are designed to honor faculty or staff members, programs or departments, and students or student organizations engaged in diversity initiatives during the previous academic year that have promoted the development of an inclusive, diverse campus community at the University of Iowa.

Jason serves on the West Liberty Coalition and has held and organized Latino Cancer Summits.  He has partnered with Al Exito (The Success) to give middle-school Latino students from Ottumwa a glimpse of what awaits them in college.  On campus he is involved in developing interventions with Latino students who want to combat rape culture.

He has partnered with the Women’s Resource and Action Center and the Sigma Lambda Beta Latin Fraternity and Sorority on campus to addresses barriers to healthy relationships, equality, and healthy sexuality and power dynamics that are specific to Latin culture. He also serves as advisor for the Storm Lake Students Fellowship Program, which offers resources and support to help students make a successful social and academic transition to college.
