post-doctoral trainees, occupational medicine residents, junior

the growing obesity epidemic. LINDA SNETSELAAR, professor and

Compares Dieting Strategies in Women's Magazines
(Philadelphia Inquirer, 1/29/2008)
A new study concludes that magazines aimed at African American
women
are more likely than "mainstream" women's magazines to encourage
fad
diets and reliance on faith rather than proven fat-fighting
strategies. The study was led by SHELLY CAMPO, assistant professor
of
community and behavioral health.

Governor Chet Culver and Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge have
challenged state employees to take on the Lighten Up Iowa
100-Day
Challenge. The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health
has
already formed two teams and would welcome some healthy
competition.

Health Problems," from 11 a.m. to noon in the Seebohm Conference

for viewing. Jacqueline Hughes-Oliver, professor of statistics
at
North Carolina State University, inspired faculty, staff, and
students
with stories from her own life growing up in Jamaica and
persevering
through her undergraduate and graduate studies in the United
States.
Her lecture was co-sponsored by the Department of
Biostatistics.
