Iowa and other states face a looming public health workforce shortage
unless immediate steps are taken to recruit and train the next
generation of public health professionals, according to a new report
by the Association of Schools of Public Health.

UI Student Health Fair March 5
Planning to get in shape for spring? Start off by attending the UI
Student Health Fair. The event will include cholesterol testing,
bone-density screening, skin analysis, body-fat testing, and much
more. The fair will take place on Wednesday, March 5, from 8:30 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on the main deck of the UI Field House.

UI Events Raise Awareness of Landmine Removal and Child Soldiers
On March 5, the Iowa United Nations Association will host its seventh
Night of 1000 Dinners fund-raiser for landmine removal. On March 5-6,
Angélique Kidjo, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and musician, will visit
the University to speak about child soldiers and perform at Hancher
Auditorium.

Research Week: Center on Aging to Offer Poster Award
As part of Research Week 2008 (April 1-2) the Center on Aging will
give a $350 award to the best research poster and abstract on aging.
This award is separate from the College of Public Health and the
Carver College of Medicine awards. The deadline for submitting posters
is March 3.

Pilot Grant Opportunity in Translational Research
The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science at the University
of Iowa is accepting applications for pilot and feasibility grants in
translational research. Pilot grants will be awarded up to $50,000 for
one year. For this cycle, up to four pilot grants will be awarded.
