Study: Increased Risks for Women Three Years After Ending Hormone TherapyWomen who received estrogen plus progestin as part of a major clinical
trial on the benefits and risks of hormone therapy had a higher risk
of breast cancer and other conditions three years after the study was
discontinued. ROBERT WALLACE, professor of epidemiology, was a study
investigator. The study included 1,100 Iowa women.

Comments on WHI Follow-up Study
(Voice of America News, 3/4/2008)
The results of a follow-up investigation to the Women's Health
Initiative study show that older women who used hormone therapy to
ease the symptoms of
menopause and then discontinued it remain at an increased risk of
cancer.
The story quotes ROBERT WALLACE, professor of epidemiology and one
of
the study's investigators. Wallace is cited in similar stories on

Several MPH students have received a $2,000 grant from the
Association
of Schools of Public Health to create a publicity campaign for
Public
Health Week. "This Is Public Health: Get the Picture," will
raise
awareness about public health through three community projects.
Faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate.

Deadline Extended: Research Week Poster SubmissionsResearch Week 2008: Innate Immunity will be held April 1-2. The
deadline for poster submissions has been extended to March 17. A $350
award will be given to the best CPH poster entry on each day. In
addition, the Center on Aging will give a $350 award to the best
research poster and abstract on aging.
