Training for Wheels
(Bloomington Pantagraph, 4/22/2008)
A story about bicycle safety for children cites a critical piece
of
data revealed in tests at The University of Iowa: though kids
often
make the same decisions as adults about when it's safe to cross
streets on bikes, younger riders don't get the mission accomplished
as
fast. The research was funded in part by the Injury Prevention
Research Center. The Pantagraph is published in Illinois.

UI Seeks to
Close Pay Gap
(Iowa City Press-Citizen, 4/22/2008)
An article on gender equity in University of Iowa salaries cites
two
University reports that found a pay discrepancy in the College
of
Public Health. "We had a salary issue in one particular
department,
and it's historic, a classic compression issue," said Dean
JAMES
MERCHANT. Officials in the college say the inequity has been
corrected.

An
Antimicrobial Crisis
(The Daily Iowan, 4/24/2008)

is

pathogens.

Tell a Tale
(The Daily Iowan, 4/24/2008)
Multicolored shirts were on display on the UI Pentacrest on
Wednesday,
but not to make a fashion statement. The Rape Victim Advocacy
Program's Iowa City Clothesline Project displayed the T-shirts to
bear
witness to violence against women. The Global Health Club and
College
of Public Health Student Association co-sponsored the event.

Report on
Livestock Production to Be Released
(KNEB radio, 4/25/2008)
The official word will not be released until next Tuesday, but
members
of the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production are
talking. The report makes recommendations for policies that
could
affect the way food is produced. Commission members are saying
that
agriculture must address the welfare issues and public health
risks
occasioned by animal production systems. Commission member
JAMES
MERCHANT of the University of Iowa says he doesn't think shackling
the
industry is indicated. He said we want to have a healthy
livestock
industry but it needs to live within limits established by
society.
The radio station is based in Nebraska.
