Iowa Public Health Heroes Award

The annual Iowa Public Health Heroes Award increases awareness and appreciation of the critical contributions that the public health workforce makes to improved wellness and disease prevention across Iowa. Nominations are solicited each year from the Iowa public health practice community. Read more about this award and previous recipients.

We invite nominations of individuals from across all fields of public health and a range of career paths including service in local leadership, advocacy, business, as a newcomer to public health practice, or for career achievement. Nominations of individuals from traditional and non-traditional public health organizations are encouraged.

Recipients will be recognized at the 2013 Institute for Public Health Practice Fall Colloquium in Iowa City (date TBA).

The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2013.

CRITERIA

The criteria that are considered in selecting recipients are:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of public health (e.g., community-based approaches to health and prevention, equity for all people, collaborative spirit, ethical decision-making, etc.)

  • Significant contributions to improving and protecting the health of Iowans.

  • Contribute to a broader understanding of public health.

  • Primary place of employment must be in Iowa, but outside the College of Public Health and the University of Iowa.
