Chicago Health and Life Experiences
of Women (CHLEW) (http://www.uic.edu/nursing/womenstudy)
Very
little research has focused on lesbian health, and almost no studies
have included large numbers of lesbians of color. The Chicago
Health and Life Experiences of Women (CHLEW) is currently being
conducted at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The CHLEW
study will collect interview data on the health and life experiences
of the diverse group of women who identify as lesbian. Data collected
from 400 lesbians in Chicago will be compared with data from women
in the National Women's Health and Life Experiences Study to identify
similarities and differences between lesbians and heterosexual
women. All women who are 18 years or older, who live in the greater
Chicago metropolitan area and who identify as lesbian are invited
to participate. Women of color and women over 50 are especially
needed for the study. Confidential interviews will be scheduled
at a time and place convenient to participants and participants
will receive $35.00 in appreciation for their time. Call the research
