One Sky Center The American Indian/Alaska Native National Resource Center for Substance Abuse

One Sky Center is the first national resource center dedicated to improving prevention and treatment of substance abuse among Native people. Conceptualized and funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), it is designed to work across all federal and state agencies that provide services to American Indian/Alaska Native populations.

Aberden Area Tribal Chairmen's Health Board

The Aberdeen Area Tribal Chairmen's Health Board is established in order to provide the Indian people of the Aberdeen Area with a formal representative Board as a means of communicating and participation with the Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service and other health agencies and organizations on health matters.

American Indian Health (http://americanindianhealth.nlm.nih.gov/)

The National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine has launched a Web site addressing the special health concerns of the 4 million Americans who claim American Indian or Alaska Native ancestry. For example, NIH notes, Native Americans are 2.6 times more likely to have diabetes as non-Hispanic whites of a similar age. They also have a greater mortality risk for tuberculosis, suicide, pneumonia, alcoholism and influenza than the average population. The American Indian Health site brings together pertinent health and medical resources, including consumer health information, research results, traditional healing resources, and links to other Web sites. Much of it has been assembled from other National Library of Medicine resources such as PubMed and MedlinePlus.

A joint project between Arizona State University and H-NET, H-AmIndian includes an edited discussion list for scholars, academicians, and Native peoples to consider the history, culture, ideas and events relating to indigenous peoples from the North Pole to Mexico.

The National Center for American Indian and Alaska Native Mental Health Research (NCAIANMHR) (http://www.uchsc.edu/ai/ncaianmhr/resource.htm)

The National Center for American Indian and Alaska Native Mental Health Research (NCAIANMHR), a program in the Department of Psychiatry, is one of four minority mental health research Centers. The NCAIANMHR is sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and is the only program of this type in the country focusing specifically on American Indian and Alaska Native populations.

The Commission is the liaison between the Executive Branch and the Tribes in North Dakota. Duties include mediation service with the Tribes and State and working with other state agencies regarding proper protocol in working with Indian people and Tribal governments.
