The Prairielands Addiction Technology Transfer Center (PATTC), funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), is offering a continuing education on-line course called Research for the Research-Phobic. ( PATTC is currently applying for CEU credits.)

This course, developed with funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), provides an overview of the research process for the substance abuse counselor with little or no experience with research. The course does not require any prior knowledge about research or statistics. It focuses on concepts related to research, and it is not a statistics course. Presented in 10 chapters, it introduces concepts such as study design, sample selection, bias, data collection and analysis and concludes with advice on sources of funding for research in the field of addictions.

Registration:	Please read these instructions carefully before you register for the course. If you agree with these terms, please complete all fields on the registration form and then click on ‘Register’ at the bottom of the page. You can register for a course at any time. Submit your registration information only once per course. You should receive a copy of the information you submitted at the email account you provided on the form. After filling out the registration form, the only thing you need to do is make the payment.
Cost:	$35, payable to Prairielands ATTC by check, money order, cash or credit card (Visa or MasterCard only). There will be a charge of $20 for any returned checks; after 2 weeks, the participant will no longer be allowed to pay by check. Payments will only be deposited after you have logged in for the first time; in the case of refund, your original check, money order or cash will be returned to you. There will be no refund after you have logged in for the first time. PATTC reserves the right to refuse services to anyone whose account is in arrears. After receiving your payment we will activate your account and send you an email notice; you can log in to your account now.
Duration:	8 weeks, from when you first log in. A reminder on the main page will tell you how many days you have left for this course.
Instructions:	Click ‘Start to Learn’ on the main page to get access to course content page. You can also download the PDF text from the course content page. When asked to write an answer, input your answer in the text area, and click ‘Save my Note’. Your note will be accessed by clicking ‘download my note’ on the menu of each page. If at the end of the eight weeks you have not taken the final test at least once, you will fail the course. If at the end of the eight weeks you took the test for the first time and did not pass, you have a one week grace period to retake the final. If you fail the course, you need to reregister for the course. If you can’t finish the course on time for some reason and you want to resume your course, please write an email to us to state your reason. After you pass your final, and you are still within your 8 week course period, you can still access your account. However, you cannot take the test again.
