Binge Drinking & Underage Drinking | News | Project Statement
| preliminary studies | Future
Project
In
the future research, we will utilize a longitudinal design permitting
repeated measures of drinking and its consequences over the course
of students’ undergraduate academic careers. Specifically,
we will:
1. Identify correlates of alcohol-related behavioral consequences
and of binge drinking among undergraduates at three large public
universities and a small private liberal arts college.
2. Ascertain the extent to which these correlates, singly and in
combination, predict alcohol-related consequences and binge drinking
rates.
3. Determine the extent to which these correlates cohere in specific
groups (based, for example, on gender, racial or ethnic groups,
socioeconomic status, academic achievement) or on specific campuses
and, hence, account for group differences in alcohol-related consequences
and binge drinking.
4. Undertake focused evaluation of correlates of unplanned or unsafe
sex that is alcohol-related, including both binge drinking rate
and other predictors of unplanned or unsafe sex.
