Introduction to the Course

This course provides information for substance abuse counselors and other professionals who might work primarily with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people or who work primarily with substance abusers. It draws heavily from the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment’s document entitled, “A providers introduction to substance abuse treatment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.” If possible, readers should order copies of this document. The Provider's Introduction is a valuable resource that we would like to have placed in every substance abuse treatment program in the country. The Providers Introduction has practical information about substance abusing LGBT people in the form of a technical manual. This correspondence course was developed to enhance and expand on the information. It is worth 15 hours of continuing education credit.
