New Investigator Awards Guidelines
The deadline for the College of Public Health-Carver College of Medicine New Investigator Research Award has been extended to Tuesday, November 24, 4:00 pm.
Purpose: To assist newly-appointed primary (or joint) CPH or CCOM faculty advance their research activities.
Eligibility: The principal investigator/applicant must be a tenure-track or clinical-track primary CPH or CCOM faculty member at the rank of faculty associate or assistant professor. To be eligible, the principal investigator's first CPH or CCOM faculty appointment to either of these ranks must have been no earlier than July 1, 2007. Recipients of this award in previous years are not eligible.
Awards: It is anticipated that up to four awards with funding up to $10,000 for each will be made.
Criteria:
- Scientific merit, including originality
- Relevance to UI public health mission
- Likelihood of subsequent extramural funding
Deadline: Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009.
Applications: All applications must be completed online and submitted using the online application form.
Budget: Awards will be made for the 2010 calendar year. It is required that awarded funds be utilized within this time period. Funds not utilized by December 31, 2010 will revert to the originating collegiate research account. Funds awarded may not be used for faculty salaries. Up to $1,000 of approved funds may be used to provide travel for the P.I. to present research results at a national meeting. A portion of the project funds can be used for local travel for research activities, e.g. data collection efforts in the state. No other travel expenses are permitted.
Final Report: A final written report must be submitted to the CPH Research Office by February 1, 2011. Award recipients are required to present the project at a CPH faculty meeting (or at a CPH seminar) and present a poster during the CCOM-CPH-VA Research Week in April 2011.
Evaluation: An ad-hoc CPH committee will review and rank applications by evaluating the project's significance, research plan, relationship to CPH mission, and likelihood of subsequent extramural research funding.
